Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xelosil is an oral suspension combination of sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate developed by Everest Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acid regurgitation, heartburn, and indigestion. Upon ingestion, sodium alginate reacts with gastric acid to form a protective alginic acid gel raft that floats on top of the stomach contents, physically preventing acid reflux into the esophagus. Concurrently, sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate act as antacids to neutralize gastric acid, with sodium bicarbonate also releasing carbon dioxide to help float and stabilize the alginate raft.
