Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride + dextrose monohydrate + sodium lactate + calcium chloride + potassium chloride is a fixed-composition **parenteral crystalloid and carbohydrate solution** marketed as Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection. It is an intravenous combination product containing sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, lactate, and dextrose, used for **fluid and electrolyte replacement**, **alkalinization**, and as a **source of water, electrolytes, and calories** in adults and pediatric patients. Its pharmacologic effect is not mediated through a single receptor target; instead, it works by directly restoring extracellular fluid volume and physiologic ions while providing modest caloric support from dextrose and metabolizable lactate. The product is a hypertonic multi-electrolyte injection solution and has been manufactured commercially by ICU Medical.
