sodium docusate + sorbitol

Sodium docusate + sorbitol (marketed under the brand name Klyx) is a combination rectal enema product used for the treatment of constipation, including rectal fecal impaction, and for bowel cleansing prior to medical procedures such as sigmoidoscopy. It contains two active ingredients: sodium docusate, a surfactant and stool softener that promotes water retention in stools to soften them, and sorbitol, an osmotic laxative that draws water into the bowel to stimulate evacuation. Administered rectally, the enema typically produces a bowel movement within minutes. The combination has been evaluated in clinical trials, including pediatric studies comparing its efficacy to high-dose polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG 3350) for rectal fecal impaction.
