Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Sodium gluconate + magnesium chloride + sodium acetate + potassium chloride + sodium chloride** is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic intravenous multi-electrolyte solution marketed by Baxter as **PLASMA-LYTE A** and **PLASMA-LYTE 148**. It provides sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate to restore extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte balance. Acetate and gluconate serve as metabolizable hydrogen-ion acceptors that support an alkalinizing effect. The solution is used intravenously as a source of water and electrolytes and as an alkalinizing agent, including for hydration, dehydration, and electrolyte replacement. PLASMA-LYTE A Injection pH 7.4 contains, per 100 mL, sodium chloride 526 mg, sodium gluconate 502 mg, sodium acetate trihydrate 368 mg, potassium chloride 37 mg, and magnesium chloride hexahydrate 30 mg.
