Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A fixed-dose combination of sodium hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate, two glycosaminoglycans that function as viscoelastic agents and lubricants. In ophthalmology, the combination is used as a preservative-free artificial tear (e.g., Humylub Ofteno) to treat dry eye disease and as a surgical aid (e.g., Viscoat) to protect the corneal endothelium during cataract surgery. In orthopedics, it is administered via intra-articular injection to manage symptomatic knee osteoarthritis by improving the rheological properties of synovial fluid and providing chondroprotection. Additionally, it is utilized intravesically to restore the glycosaminoglycan layer of the bladder wall in patients with interstitial cystitis or bladder pain syndrome.
