Sodium hyaluronate + triglycerides + phospholipids is a combination ophthalmic formulation used primarily as an artificial tear or ocular lubricant for the treatment of dry eye disease. Sodium hyaluronate, a salt form of hyaluronic acid, acts as a viscoelastic agent that retains water and stabilizes the tear film. Triglycerides and phospholipids are included to enhance the lipid layer of the tear film, improving its stability and reducing evaporation. This combination has been shown to increase tear film thickness (TFT) for longer periods compared to sodium hyaluronate alone, leading to improved subjective symptoms in patients with moderate-to-severe dry eye disease[4]. The mechanism involves physical stabilization and enhancement of both aqueous and lipid layers on the ocular surface.
