Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ultra-TechneKow is a technetium-99m (Tc-99m) generator system used to produce sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m injection, a widely used diagnostic radiopharmaceutical. The generator consists of a lead-shielded column containing fission-produced molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) adsorbed onto alumina. As the Mo-99 parent isotope decays (half-life of 66 hours), it produces the metastable daughter isotope Tc-99m (half-life of 6 hours). The Tc-99m is eluted from the column as sodium pertechnetate using sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution. Sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m is utilized in nuclear medicine for various imaging procedures, including thyroid and salivary gland scintigraphy, detection of vesico-ureteral reflux via direct isotopic cystography, and nasolacrimal drainage system imaging. Additionally, the eluate serves as the primary precursor for labeling a broad range of other FDA-approved Tc-99m-based radiopharmaceutical kits for imaging the heart, bones, kidneys, and lungs.
