Overview

Solifenacin + gabapentin is a combination pharmacological intervention being evaluated for the treatment of non-neurogenic overactive bladder (OAB) in women. The therapy combines solifenacin, a competitive muscarinic M3 receptor antagonist that inhibits detrusor muscle contraction, with gabapentin, a ligand for the α2δ-1 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels. While gabapentin is primarily used for epilepsy and neuropathic pain, its inclusion in OAB treatment is intended to modulate sensory afferent signaling and reduce bladder hypersensitivity. This dual-mechanism approach aims to provide superior symptom control compared to antimuscarinic monotherapy. The combination has been studied in a Phase 3 randomized controlled trial led by Mansoura University.
