Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Solifenacin + tamsulosin is an oral fixed-dose combination of two small molecules used to treat moderate-to-severe lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia in men, particularly where storage symptoms such as urinary urgency and frequency coexist with voiding symptoms. Solifenacin is a selective antimuscarinic agent that primarily antagonizes bladder M3 muscarinic receptors, reducing involuntary detrusor contractions, while tamsulosin antagonizes alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the prostate and bladder neck, relaxing smooth muscle and improving urinary flow. The Astellas-developed modified-release formulation was developed as EC905 and marketed as Vesomni, containing solifenacin succinate 6 mg plus tamsulosin hydrochloride 0.4 mg.
