Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination is a prebiotic fiber blend designed to enhance gut health by selectively stimulating the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in the colon. Soluble corn fiber (SCF) is a glucose polymer resistant to human digestion, while inulin and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are fructose-based polymers (fructans). Together, they undergo fermentation by the gut microbiota, particularly *Bifidobacterium* and *Lactobacillus* species, leading to the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as butyrate, acetate, and propionate. These SCFAs lower colonic pH, improve mineral absorption (notably calcium), support intestinal barrier integrity, and modulate systemic inflammation through host receptors. This specific triad is often utilized in clinical research and dietary supplements to improve bowel regularity and metabolic markers without the significant gastrointestinal distress sometimes associated with high doses of a single fiber type.
