Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SpFN + ALFQ (Spike Ferritin Nanoparticle adjuvanted with Army Liposome Formulation containing QS-21) is a next-generation recombinant protein subunit nanoparticle vaccine candidate developed by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in collaboration with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) and the University of Pittsburgh. The vaccine is designed to provide broad and durable protection against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and other coronaviruses (pan-sarbecovirus). It consists of multiple SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins linked to the surface of a self-assembling ferritin nanoparticle, formulated with the potent ALFQ adjuvant (which contains monophosphoryl lipid A and QS-21). In addition to intramuscular administration, a dissolvable microneedle patch (MNP) formulation is being developed by the University of Pittsburgh to enable needle-free, thermostable delivery.
