SPR741 + aztreonam is a combination therapy consisting of **SPR741**, a novel polymyxin B derivative with minimal intrinsic antibacterial activity, and **aztreonam**, a monobactam β-lactam antibiotic. SPR741 acts as a potentiator by permeabilizing the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, thereby enhancing the uptake and efficacy of coadministered antibiotics, such as aztreonam. This combination is designed to target multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria, especially those with resistance to conventional antibiotics. SPR741’s modifications result in reduced nephrotoxicity relative to traditional polymyxins.
