Squalamine lactate is an investigational anti-angiogenic agent that inhibits several steps in the angiogenic process, including the VEGF signal pathway, integrin expression, and cytoskeletal formation. Verteporfin is a photosensitizing agent used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). The combination aims to leverage potential synergistic effects between the systemic anti-angiogenic properties of squalamine lactate and the targeted photodynamic therapy with verteporfin.
