SRP + boric acid

SRP + boric acid refers to the combination therapy of scaling and root planing (SRP), a standard non-surgical periodontal treatment, with adjunctive local application of boric acid. This combination is used in the management of periodontitis. Boric acid is applied either as a gel or via irrigation after mechanical debridement (SRP). The rationale for this approach is that while SRP removes dental plaque and calculus mechanically, the addition of boric acid provides antimicrobial effects—boric acid exhibits fungistatic and weak bacteriostatic properties, inhibits biofilm formation, hyphal transformation in fungi such as Candida albicans, and may reduce pathogenic bacteria associated with periodontitis[1][2][3][6].
