SsK12 + liposomal glutathione

SsK12 + liposomal glutathione (SsK12@Lip@GSH) is an investigational oral probiotic formulation developed by the General Hospital of Western Theater Command for the prevention and treatment of radiation-induced oral mucositis (RIOM) in patients with head and neck malignancies. The formulation consists of the probiotic strain *Streptococcus salivarius* K12 (SsK12) encapsulated within liposomes and combined with glutathione (GSH). This liposomal delivery system is designed to enhance the stability of the probiotic and provide free radical scavenging activity to combat oxidative stress. Additionally, the glutathione component facilitates targeted delivery to the oral mucosa by exploiting the overexpression of GSH transporters at sites of radiation damage. Clinical results from a Phase 1 study (NCT06446180) indicate that the treatment is well-tolerated and may reduce the severity of oral mucositis and prevent radiotherapy interruptions.
