Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Stannous chloride + sodium fluoride** is a combination of **tin(II) chloride** (stannous chloride) and **sodium fluoride**, typically formulated as a high-concentration topical dental gel or rinse for professional use. The combination is designed to prevent and reduce **dental erosion** and **caries** by acting synergistically: **sodium fluoride** facilitates the formation of calcium fluoride deposits on tooth surfaces, serving as a barrier against demineralization, while **stannous chloride** delivers stannous ions that incorporate into dental substrates, increasing their resistance to acid attacks and aiding the formation of an acid-resistant, metal-rich surface layer. Together, these agents inhibit enamel and dentin erosion more effectively than fluoride alone. Stannous ions also provide anti-microbial, **anti-plaque**, and **anti-gingivitis** effects, and contribute to reducing tooth sensitivity[1][4][6]. This combination is primarily indicated for in-office application to support individuals at high risk for erosive tooth wear, but some over-the-counter oral hygiene products utilize related combinations for similar preventive benefits.
