Stannous fluoride + cetylpyridinium chloride is a combination of two active ingredients commonly used in oral health products such as toothpastes and mouth rinses. Stannous fluoride is a tin(II) salt of fluoride that acts primarily by promoting enamel remineralization, increasing resistance to acid dissolution, and inhibiting the cariogenic microbial process. It also helps reduce gingival inflammation, dental hypersensitivity, and has broad-spectrum antibacterial effects[2][7]. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound with broad-spectrum antiseptic properties; it works as a cationic disinfectant with rapid bactericidal action against gram-positive bacteria and yeasts. Its primary use is to reduce plaque, prevent or reduce gingivitis, kill germs that cause bad breath, and provide local antiseptic effects in the oral cavity[1][5][8]. The combination leverages both agents' antimicrobial actions for enhanced protection against dental plaque and gum disease[4].
