Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Stannous fluoride + nitrate + pyrophosphate** is an oral care combination drug and technology found in advanced toothpaste formulations, sometimes referred to as SNaP technology. It is designed to enhance the stability and efficacy of stannous fluoride for oral health use. **Stannous fluoride** acts via anti-caries, antimicrobial, antiplaque, and anti-hypersensitivity effects, reducing viability of oral biofilm, remineralizing tooth mineral, and forming a protective barrier on dentin. **Nitrate** (typically as potassium nitrate) is included for its desensitizing properties, reducing dental hypersensitivity by calming nerve responses in dentin. **Pyrophosphate** serves mainly as a stabilizer to prevent precipitation and degradation of stannous ions, and may also help inhibit calculus (tartar) formation. This combination has demonstrated statistically significant clinical benefit in reducing plaque, gingivitis, hypersensitivity, and oral malodor compared to regular fluoride products.
