Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Stannous fluoride + zinc chloride** is a combination used primarily in oral care products, notably toothpaste and mouthrinse, for the prevention and control of gingivitis, dental caries (cavities), and periodontal disease. Stannous fluoride acts by promoting enamel mineralization, providing bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects, inhibiting plaque regrowth, and forming an acid-resistant protective layer on the teeth. It reduces biofilm burden, restricts bacterial sugar uptake, and helps in reducing dentinal hypersensitivity by occluding dentinal tubules. Zinc chloride, as part of the formulation, is included for its anticalculus effects and for helping to neutralize malodorous sulfur compounds, thereby freshening breath and enhancing antimicrobial activities. The combination is clinically proven to improve gum health, support plaque control, and provide broad-spectrum oral protection, as demonstrated in clinical trials and supported by FDA approvals for stannous fluoride in oral care[1][5][2][7].
