statin + SGLT2 inhibitor

This is a combination therapy consisting of a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) and a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Statins are lipid-lowering agents that inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver and lowering LDL cholesterol levels. They are primarily used for cardiovascular risk reduction. SGLT2 inhibitors block glucose reabsorption in the proximal renal tubules, promoting glycosuria and thereby lowering blood glucose levels; they are used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and have demonstrated benefits in heart failure and chronic kidney disease. The combination is commonly prescribed due to overlapping indications—patients with type 2 diabetes often require both glycemic control (SGLT2i) and cardiovascular risk management (statin). Current evidence suggests no significant increase in myotoxicity or rhabdomyolysis when these two classes are used together[1][4]. There is no single fixed-dose product; this refers to concomitant use of two separate drug classes.
