Sterculia + ispaghula husk is a combination of two natural bulk-forming laxatives used primarily to treat constipation. Both ingredients are plant-derived fibers that work by absorbing water in the gut, increasing fecal mass and stimulating peristalsis (bowel movement). Sterculia is a polysaccharide gum obtained from the Sterculia urens tree, while ispaghula (psyllium) husk comes from Plantago ovata seeds. The combination increases stool bulk and moisture content, making stools softer and easier to pass. This dual-fiber approach can be particularly effective for chronic constipation or conditions requiring increased dietary fiber intake. In addition to relieving constipation, these fibers may help lower cholesterol levels slightly and support overall colon health[2][4][5][6]. The mechanism of action is physical rather than pharmacological—neither ingredient is absorbed systemically; instead, they act locally in the gastrointestinal tract.
