Overview

This investigational combination therapy, developed by researchers at Ain Shams University, consists of three probiotic bacterial strains—*Streptococcus salivarius* BLIS M18, *Lactobacillus reuteri* LR08, and *Lactobacillus paracasei* Lpc-37—formulated with a prebiotic. It is specifically designed to treat extrinsic black tooth stains (tooth discoloration) in children by targeting and inhibiting the growth of chromogenic bacteria. The primary biological targets are *Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans* and *Actinomyces naeslundii*, which are implicated in the formation of these stains. In a Phase 4 clinical trial, the probiotic administration resulted in the complete eradication of *A. actinomycetemcomitans* and a significant reduction in *A. naeslundii* levels within 14 days, demonstrating potent bactericidal effects in the oral microbiome.
