Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Streptomycin + metronidazole is a combination of two antibiotics, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Streptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to cell death. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial that exerts its effect by damaging bacterial DNA through the generation of reactive intermediates under anaerobic conditions. This combination may be used experimentally or in research settings to alter gut microbiota composition or for specific clinical scenarios where both aerobic and anaerobic coverage are required[2][3]. However, this combination does not have a widely recognized brand name or standard clinical indication as a fixed-dose product.
