Overview

Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) is an autologous, cell-based biologic therapy being investigated by the Midwestern Regional Medical Center for the treatment of chronic radiation-induced xerostomia in head and neck cancer patients. SVF is a heterogeneous mixture of cells—including adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), endothelial cells, pericytes, and pre-adipocytes—obtained from a patient's own adipose tissue via liposuction and processed using the Tissue Genesis Icellator cell isolation system. The therapy is administered via direct injection into the parotid and submandibular salivary glands. Its mechanism of action relies on the regenerative and paracrine properties of the constituent cells to repair damaged glandular tissue and restore saliva production, addressing the long-term side effects of radiotherapy.
