Strontium ranelate + cholecalciferol (S06911) is a fixed-dose combination oral therapy developed by Servier for the treatment of osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. It combines strontium ranelate, a dual-action bone agent (DABA) that simultaneously increases bone formation by osteoblasts and decreases bone resorption by osteoclasts, with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) to improve calcium absorption and bone mineralization. Strontium ranelate is believed to act primarily through the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) to modulate bone remodeling. This combination was specifically designed to address the high prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in patients with osteoporosis, aiming to improve compliance and therapeutic outcomes by providing both the anabolic/anti-resorptive agent and the necessary vitamin D in a single daily dose.
