Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SU5416 + carboplatin is a combination therapy consisting of SU5416, a multi-targeted kinase inhibitor, and carboplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy agent. SU5416 works by inhibiting Kit signaling to directly block tumor growth and by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) signaling to block angiogenesis. This dual mechanism allows it to target both the tumor cells directly and the tumor vasculature. Carboplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent that works by forming DNA adducts that interfere with DNA replication, leading to cell death. The combination has been investigated for treatment of various cancers including small cell lung cancer and ovarian cancer.
