Overview
Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) with allergen extract is a therapeutic biologic developed by Roxall Medizin for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis. This treatment involves the sublingual administration of specific pollen allergen extracts to desensitize the immune system. The mechanism of action involves the induction of peripheral T-cell tolerance, characterized by the generation of allergen-specific regulatory T cells (Tregs) and a shift from a Th2-biased allergic response to a Th1-mediated response. This leads to a reduction in allergen-specific IgE levels and an increase in protective IgG4 antibodies, ultimately decreasing the inflammatory response and clinical symptoms upon subsequent allergen exposure.
