Succinylcholine + rocuronium is a combination of two neuromuscular blocking agents used in anesthesia, particularly to facilitate tracheal intubation and provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. Succinylcholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocker that acts as an agonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the motor endplate, causing transient muscle fasciculations followed by paralysis. Rocuronium is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker that competitively inhibits acetylcholine at the same receptor, preventing depolarization and resulting in muscle relaxation. This combination may be used sequentially (with low-dose rocuronium given before succinylcholine) to reduce the incidence and severity of succinylcholine-induced fasciculations without significantly affecting intubating conditions or onset/duration of paralysis[1][3][6]. Both drugs are widely used for rapid sequence induction (RSI) in emergency and operative settings.
