Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SweetUms is a 24% sucrose solution designed for use as a calming agent and non-pharmacological analgesic in neonates and infants. It is primarily utilized during minor medical procedures, such as heel sticks, venipuncture, and immunizations, to mitigate pain and distress. The administration of the sweet-tasting solution to the anterior part of the tongue stimulates taste receptors, which in turn activates the endogenous opioid system in the brain. This mechanism provides a brief period of analgesia and comfort. SweetUms is commonly supplied in single-use containers to ensure sterility and ease of use in clinical environments like the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or pediatric clinics.
