Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination medication containing sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine, amodiaquine, and ferrous fumarate. The sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine and amodiaquine components are used for malaria treatment and prevention, particularly in areas with chloroquine resistance. Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine works by inhibiting two different steps in the biosynthesis of tetrahydrofolate in the malaria parasite, while amodiaquine has antimalarial properties. Ferrous fumarate is an iron supplement that may be included to address potential anemia in malaria patients.
