Overview

This entry refers to the combination of sulindac and placebo, typically as used in clinical trials where one group receives active drug (sulindac) and another receives an inert substance (placebo) for comparison. Sulindac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the arylalkanoic acid class, primarily indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, and gouty arthritis. It is also sometimes used off-label to reduce colorectal polyps in familial adenomatous polyposis. Sulindac acts mainly by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2 (prostaglandin G/H synthase 1/2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis involved in pain and inflammation[1][3][4]. Placebo contains no active pharmaceutical ingredient; it serves as a control in clinical studies to assess the efficacy or safety of sulindac.
