sultamicillin (Beimei Pharma)

Meinuoxian is a brand name for **sultamicillin**, an oral mutual prodrug that co-delivers the beta-lactam antibiotic ampicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam. Upon oral administration, sultamicillin is hydrolyzed during absorption to release equimolar amounts of ampicillin and sulbactam into the systemic circulation. Ampicillin exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to and inhibiting **penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)**, which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam acts as an irreversible inhibitor of many common **beta-lactamases**, thereby protecting ampicillin from enzymatic degradation and extending its spectrum of activity to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria. Developed by Beimei Pharma (Bainei Pharmaceutical), Meinuoxian is formulated as a powder for oral suspension and is primarily indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is currently undergoing Phase 1 bioequivalence studies in China.
