Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles + C595 is a targeted molecular imaging agent consisting of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) covalently conjugated to the C595 monoclonal antibody. The C595 antibody specifically binds to the MUC1 antigen, which is overexpressed on certain cancer cells, including breast cancer (MCF-7 cell line). Conjugation is achieved via EDC/NHS-mediated coupling, resulting in a nanoprobe with an average hydrodynamic size of around 87 nm. The primary mechanism is the active targeting of tumor cells through antibody-antigen interaction, followed by selective accumulation of the SPIONs at the target site. In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), SPIONs act as T2 MRI contrast agents, significantly reducing the T2 relaxation time and enhancing imaging contrast in targeted tissue. The agent demonstrates low cytotoxicity in vitro at studied concentrations and has potential for early diagnosis and molecular imaging of breast cancer[1][3]. C595 is a murine monoclonal antibody developed for mucin (MUC1) targeting.
