Surgiflo (Ethicon)

Surgiflo is a flowable hemostatic matrix composed of porcine-derived gelatin and human-derived thrombin. It is designed to provide a physical scaffold for clot formation while actively promoting the coagulation cascade through the enzymatic action of thrombin, which converts fibrinogen into fibrin. Developed and manufactured by Ethicon (a Johnson & Johnson company), Surgiflo is primarily used in surgical settings to control bleeding (hemostasis) when conventional techniques like ligation or cautery are ineffective or impractical. It is frequently utilized in orthopedic, vascular, and general surgery to reduce perioperative and postoperative blood loss.
