Overview

Sweet vernal, orchard, perennial rye, timothy, and kentucky blue grass mixed pollens allergen extract is an immunotherapy product used for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis, with or without conjunctivitis. [6, 11] Marketed under the brand name Oralair, it is a sublingual tablet containing extracts from five common types of grass: Sweet Vernal, Orchard, Perennial Rye, Timothy, and Kentucky Blue Grass. [2, 11, 19] The exact mechanism of action is unknown, but it is believed to work by modulating the immune system's response to grass pollen allergens, inducing tolerance and thereby reducing allergic symptoms. [1, 2, 6] Treatment is typically initiated four months prior to the start of the grass pollen season and continued throughout the season. [2, 11] The first dose is administered under medical supervision. [4, 11] The product is developed and manufactured by Stallergenes Greer and was first approved by the FDA in 2014. [4, 26]
