Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Systane + cyclosporine is a combination therapy used for the management of dry eye disease. Systane is an ocular lubricant (artificial tear) that provides symptomatic relief by moisturizing and protecting the ocular surface, while cyclosporine is an immunomodulatory agent that increases tear production by reducing ocular surface inflammation. Cyclosporine acts as a calcineurin inhibitor, suppressing T-cell mediated inflammation in the lacrimal glands and conjunctiva, thereby improving natural tear production. This combination leverages both immediate lubrication from Systane and long-term anti-inflammatory effects from cyclosporine to address both symptoms and underlying causes of dry eye disease[1][2][3][5].
