Overview

Tacrolimus + Wuzhi capsule is a combination therapy used primarily in organ transplant recipients, especially kidney and liver transplant patients. Tacrolimus is a potent immunosuppressant that acts as a calcineurin inhibitor to prevent organ rejection. Wuzhi capsule (WZC) is an ethanol extract of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Schisandra sphenanthera (Nan-Wuweizi), commonly prescribed in China to increase the blood concentration of tacrolimus by inhibiting its metabolism via cytochrome P450 3A enzymes and P-glycoprotein. This combination allows for lower doses of tacrolimus while maintaining therapeutic levels, improving cost-effectiveness and reducing toxicity risk. Clinical studies show that co-administration increases the bioavailability of tacrolimus without significant adverse effects on renal or liver function[1][2][4][6][7].
