TAE + P53 gene refers to a combination therapy involving Transcatheter Arterial Embolization (TAE) and p53 gene therapy. TAE is a minimally invasive procedure used primarily in the treatment of liver tumors, where the blood supply to the tumor is blocked, causing tumor cell death. The p53 gene therapy component involves delivering a functional copy of the wild-type p53 tumor suppressor gene into cancer cells, typically using viral vectors such as adenoviruses. The goal is to restore or enhance p53 function in tumors with mutated or deleted TP53 genes, leading to increased apoptosis and inhibition of tumor growth. This combination aims for synergistic anti-tumor effects by both depriving tumors of their blood supply (via TAE) and reactivating apoptotic pathways (via p53 restoration).
