Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tafenoquine + artesunate-pyronaridine is a combination therapy being evaluated for the radical cure of *Plasmodium vivax* malaria. This regimen combines tafenoquine, a long-acting 8-aminoquinoline that targets dormant liver-stage parasites (hypnozoites) to prevent relapse, with artesunate-pyronaridine, an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) that rapidly clears blood-stage parasites. The combination is specifically being studied in the TADORE-Plus Phase 4 clinical trial, conducted by the Menzies School of Health Research, to assess drug-drug interactions and clinical efficacy. This research aims to optimize radical cure strategies and potentially expand the use of tafenoquine beyond its current co-administration with chloroquine.
