Tailored therapy is a personalized treatment protocol developed and evaluated by Beijing Children's Hospital for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in children. This approach moves away from a one-size-fits-all standard triple therapy by selecting a specific combination of medications based on individual patient factors: the cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) genotype, which influences the metabolism of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and the antimicrobial susceptibility of the H. pylori strain. The regimen typically includes a PPI (such as rabeprazole or esomeprazole) and two antibiotics (chosen from amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and metronidazole). By optimizing the PPI dosage and selecting antibiotics to which the bacteria are not resistant, the protocol aims to achieve higher eradication rates and minimize the development of further antibiotic resistance.
