TAK-279 + phenytoin refers to the concurrent administration of TAK-279, a highly selective oral allosteric inhibitor of tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2), and phenytoin, a well-known antiepileptic and strong cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4) inducer. TAK-279 is in late-stage development for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and is being explored for systemic lupus erythematosus and inflammatory bowel disease. The combination is being studied to evaluate the impact of phenytoin (as a strong CYP3A4 inducer) on the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of TAK-279, as well as overall safety and tolerability in healthy participants[1][2][4]. Phenytoin itself is primarily used for seizure disorders and is recognized for its significant impact on hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes.
