Overview

TAK-559 + glyburide is a combination of two oral antidiabetic agents. TAK-559 is a novel oxyiminoalkanoic acid derivative developed as an insulin-sensitizing agent. It acts as a dual agonist for human peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor alpha (PPARα), with partial agonist activity at PPARγ and slight activity at PPARδ, leading to improved insulin sensitivity[6]. Glyburide (also known as glibenclamide) is a second-generation sulfonylurea that lowers blood glucose by stimulating pancreatic beta cells to secrete insulin through closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (sulfonylurea receptor 1, SUR1)[5][1]. This combination may be investigated for synergistic effects in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
