Taxane + platinum refers to a combination chemotherapy regimen that includes a drug from the taxane class (such as paclitaxel or docetaxel) and a drug from the platinum class (such as cisplatin or carboplatin). This combination is widely used in oncology for its synergistic antitumor effects. Taxanes act by binding to the β-subunit of tubulin, stabilizing microtubules and arresting cell division at the G2-M phase. Platinum agents form DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. The distinct mechanisms of action and metabolic pathways of these two classes contribute to their combined efficacy and manageable toxicity profile. Taxane-platinum regimens are standard first-line therapies for several cancers including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), breast cancer (especially triple-negative breast cancer), ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, and esophageal cancer[1][3][4]. These regimens have demonstrated improved survival rates and response rates compared to other combinations in various clinical trials[1].
