Overview

TC-1 + cGM-CSF is an experimental whole-cell cancer vaccine designed for the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cervical cancer. It consists of irradiated TC-1 cells, which are a model cell line for HPV-infected cervical cancer, engineered to ectopically express codon-modified granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (cGM-CSF). The codon modification enhances the expression levels of GM-CSF, a potent cytokine that promotes the recruitment and maturation of antigen-presenting cells. This vaccine aims to stimulate a robust immune response against HPV antigens, particularly HPV E7, mediated by E7-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and interferon-producing killer dendritic cells (IKDCs). Research conducted primarily in academic settings, such as Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, has demonstrated its efficacy in suppressing tumor growth and improving survival in mouse models.
