Overview

Tdap + quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine refers to the co-administration of two distinct, US-licensed vaccines: the Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid, and Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and the Quadrivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (IIV4). This specific combination was evaluated in a pilot, randomized, open-label clinical trial (NCT02907242) sponsored by Duke University to assess the safety and immunogenicity of simultaneous versus sequential administration in pregnant women. The Tdap component provides protection against *Clostridium tetani*, *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*, and *Bordetella pertussis* through toxoids and acellular pertussis antigens. The IIV4 component provides protection against four seasonal influenza virus strains, typically including two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two Influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The study focused on maternal antibody titers, cord blood antibody levels, and obstetric/neonatal outcomes to ensure that co-administration does not compromise the immune response or safety for the mother or infant.
