Drug intelligence / Profile preview
technetium (99mTc) albumin nanocolloid is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical consisting of human serum albumin (HSA) nanoparticles labeled with the gamma-emitting radionuclide technetium-99m (99mTc). It is primarily used in nuclear medicine for lymphoscintigraphy, sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping (particularly in breast cancer, malignant melanoma, and gynecological cancers), bone marrow scintigraphy, and the imaging of inflammatory or infectious lesions. Following subcutaneous or interstitial injection, the nanocolloid particles (typically less than 80 nm in diameter) drain through the lymphatic system and are passively trapped in the sentinel lymph nodes via phagocytosis by resident macrophages. This allows for precise preoperative visualization and intraoperative localization of the sentinel nodes using a gamma probe or SPECT/CT imaging.
