Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Technetium (99mTc) gluceptate (also known as technetium Tc 99m gluceptate or technetium Tc 99m glucoheptonate) is a diagnostic SPECT radiopharmaceutical used for kidney and brain imaging, as well as for assessing renal and brain perfusion. It is prepared from a cold kit containing calcium gluceptate and stannous chloride, which is reconstituted with sodium pertechnetate Tc-99m. Following intravenous administration, the radiopharmaceutical is rapidly cleared from the blood, with a significant portion excreted in the urine via glomerular filtration, while approximately 10-15% is retained in the renal cortex. This cortical retention is mediated by active transport into proximal renal tubular cells, primarily via the organic anion transporter 1 (OAT1). In brain imaging, technetium (99mTc) gluceptate accumulates in intracranial lesions with altered blood-brain barrier permeability or excessive neovascularization. Originally developed by companies like Bristol Myers Squibb and Mallinckrodt, it is currently manufactured and marketed by Jubilant DraxImage (Jubilant Radiopharma) and distributed by Isologic Innovative Radiopharmaceuticals.
