Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Technetium (99mTc) hynic-octreotide (marketed under the brand name Tektrotyd) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical used in nuclear medicine for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. It consists of the somatostatin analog Tyr3-octreotide (TOC) conjugated to the hydrazinonicotinamide (HYNIC) chelator, which is radiolabeled with technetium-99m (99mTc) using ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetic acid (EDDA) as a co-ligand. The tracer selectively binds to somatostatin receptors (primarily subtype 2, SSTR2, and to a lesser extent SSTR3 and SSTR5) overexpressed on neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and other SSTR-positive tissues. Upon binding, it undergoes receptor-mediated internalization, allowing for the localization and staging of primary and metastatic neuroendocrine tumors, as well as evaluating patient eligibility for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).
