Technetium-99m-human serum albumin-indocyanine green (99mTc-MSA-ICG) is a dual-modality imaging agent developed for the intraoperative detection of sentinel lymph nodes (SLN), particularly in patients with early-stage lung cancer. The agent consists of human serum albumin (specifically micro-sized albumin, MSA) conjugated with both a radioactive tracer, Technetium-99m (99mTc), and a near-infrared fluorescent dye, Indocyanine Green (ICG). This combination allows for a "dual-contrast" approach: the radioactive component enables preoperative localization and intraoperative guidance using a gamma probe, while the fluorescent component provides real-time visual confirmation of the lymph nodes during surgery. This technology aims to improve the accuracy of SLN mapping, facilitating minimally invasive surgery and reducing the need for extensive lymph node dissection. The development is primarily led by Korea University Guro Hospital.
