Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Telaprevir + peginterferon alfa-2a** is a combination regimen used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly in patients with HCV genotype 1. Telaprevir is a direct-acting antiviral agent classified as a NS3/4A serine protease inhibitor, which blocks a key viral enzyme necessary for Hepatitis C viral replication. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a modified recombinant human interferon that stimulates antiviral immune responses by binding to type 1 interferon receptors and activating the JAK/STAT pathway. When used together (often with ribavirin), the combination enhances viral clearance and improves sustained viral response rates.
